During May, June and July 2008 we are holding Open Church at Bishop Street Methodist Church, Town Hall Square, Leicester. (www.bishopstreetchurch.org.uk)
Open Church is way of the Methodist Church offering a Christian welcome in the city centre.
During May, June and July (as a trial period) we are opening every weekday, Mon-Fri, 11.30 - 1.30 p.m. and we'd love you to call in and see us too.
There is a wide variety of people calling in and the more Christian friends are around, to sit and chat, the better that is for everybody. We want people to experience a warm welcome, a safe place to sit, a listening ear if they need it, somebody to pass the time of day with, a friendly chat from somebody who is available for half an hour or so. Please come and see what goes on, and join us for as long as you can.
There are always prayers at 1 p.m.
This is part of the Methodist Church's mission in the city centre and you can be part of that just by calling in for a drink any time you are in town.
Knit one, Save one
This is an appeal from the Save the Children UK charity for knitted hats for babies. The aim is to produce 10 million hats in 2008. These will be sent throughout the world to where the y are needed to keep new born babies warm. There is a tag to fill in with each hat which will go to Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street to highlight the appalling death rate among new born babies in many parts of the world. Any baby hat pattern will do or you can get the ‘knit kit’ at www.savethechildren.org.uk/en/docs/knit-kit.pdf. At Open Church, at Bishop Street, we have copies of the tag and pattern, and will be knitting these and other items, 11.30 to 1.30pm, especially on Thursdays. You would be very welcome to bring your knitting and join us.
