And new in our Church: a baptism and a transfer.

Services

BISHOP STREET METHODIST CHURCH, LEICESTER.

NEW ARRIVALS: we are very pleased to welcome Tatenda, baptised at our church on June 1st, 2008, and also welcome into membership by transfer, Julienne and Immanuel.

Sunday Morning Worship: 10.45am. We are a small but very diverse congregation, with a very international flavour. Most Sundays we range from people who have been Bishop Street members for 70 years, through to people recently arrived in Leicester from a dozen coutries in four continents.

Services generally last around 1 hour. We have a strong and enthusiatic hymn-singing tradition, and actively promote the congregation to participate in Bible readings and prayers. Services are led by our Minister, or by a Local Preacher. These are acredited members of our, or other nearby Methodist churches in the Leicester Trinity Methodist Circuit.

Midweek reflections: at 1.00pm on Wednesday lunchtimes, are a smaller gathering, and a shorter service, for those wishing to take a break from work, shopping, or other city centre activities, for a 30 minute time of worship and reflection. We are also joined at this service by the Foundtainhead Community, a loose network of city centre Christians, committed to prayer a reflection for leicester City Centre. Both Sunday and Midweek services  include Holy Communion once a month.

Weekday prayers: as a new venture from May 1st 2008, we are trying a programme of weekday activities under the OPEN CHURCH ‘brand’, Mondays to Fridays, 11.30am to 1.30pm. This incorporate prayers at 1.00pm each day, with the Wednesday midweek service being a little longer.

New activities:

OPEN CHURCH: We now open our foyer five days each week, from 11.30 to 1.30. This is an initial period from May to July, but is likely to at least extend into August. We provide a mix of socialising, activities, discussion and worship. Each day is acquiring its own character as time progresses. If you have input or experience of such things, or would like to hear more about our activities, please contact Revd Jill Marsh.

CQ Lyfe: This is the cryptic name for a new initiative in the Cultural Quarter (pronounced SeekYouLife) headed up by Deacon Andrew Carter. It will meet monthly at the Café bar ‘Lallie Bella’, 50 Queen Street, with Jazz music, socialising and space for personal reflection on the Christian faith. (They also plan to run a Christian Nurture course for a deeper exploration of Christianity.) There will be a ‘trial evening’, (limited publicity, to test out the format) on Tuesday May 6th, at 7.30. Please get in touch if you would like to attend.
