BACKPACK APPEAL: Our young people have been collecting items to fill backpacks which will go out to Africa to equip school children with the basic items needed in order to attend school. Thank you to the youngsters and congregation for their donations.
STUDENT MINISTER: From 15th June - 12th July we are glad to welcome Bex Dodds, who is a student minister training in Durham with Andrew and Julie Lunn. She is here with Jill, for a four week placement. Please make yourself known to Bex and let Jill know if you'd be able to offer Bex a coffee or a meal one day.
KNIT ONE, SAVE ONE: We have been getting a fantastic response to this appeal from the Save the Children UK charity. The aim is to produce 10 million knitted hats for babies in 2008 to send throughout the world where they are needed to keep new born babies warm. There is a tag to fill in with each hat which will go to Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street to highlight the appalling death rate among new born babies in many parts of the world. Any baby hat pattern will do or you can get the ‘knit kit’ at www.savethechildren.org.uk/knitting. At Open Church we have copies of the tag and pattern, and will be knitting these and other items, 11.30am to 1.30pm each weekday, but with a knitting focus especially at the Thursday Open Church. You would be very welcome to bring your knitting and join us. The campaign runs until 21st October, so there is still plenty of time.
